I've noticed that Larry Johnson simply hangs his Norvise bobbin on the tying post when he's done with a fly, thus keeping the thread from retracting and not wasting thread. I simply clip the hackle pliers on the end of the thread before I cut it..too cheap to even pull out and thus waste even 3 inches of thread. This works well for me and I've done it so long that it is habit by now. Try both ways and see if you like either. Joyce
