....trying....to....catch...up....
Picked up the 8 LED version from Byard's generousity and am quite happy with it. The only change I'd make is for the post to be 2-part for fitting into a smaller case. I like the simplicity and ease of use it provides. Yes, the 8 LED is bright enough to tie by and Lines End has this model as well. It is a breeze to put together as the post/light has a magnetic connection http://www.linesend.com/product/tying_essentials.shtml like the 12 LED but has 1 less adjustment in that the light attaches from the post instead of the arm.
As the site points out, the 12 LED has a wider beam to get the sides of your fly better and the 8 LED a longer (8 hours) life per battery. For my uses, the 8 is preferred as it will be used more for the times I need simple and less.
For my desk, I found a sunlight lamp ($20 wholesale) which blows away any halogen or incadescent/florescent combo I've ever had access to in my office supply days. The sunlight bulb will probably cost me more than the lamp when I replace it even though I can still buy bulbs wholesale.
Is it as compact as the tying lamps at Lines End? No... it is meant as a desk lamp for reading and has a much wider foot but it does adjust nicely, has perfect heaight and I'll send Byard info on the source to see if this might be an economical ($39? retail, VERY worthwhile) addition to LE. Don't expect discounts if he does because lamps are a pain to ship but this one is packaged expertly and has low weight.
Well, there are slowly but surely more new items at Lines End and it appears Byard has begun to add links to the Marryat rods & reels but the photos are not up yet. I'll bet we'll see more new stuff after the dealer shows on Lines End. Just to keep the on top of se part of these achived posts, I'll note that all kinds of fly tying products; hooks, dubbing, tippet, flys, whiting hackle necks saddles, brahma hens, leaders, tying tools, fly fishing sundries, vests, fanny packs, awesome hair, etc. are at www.linesend.com and you get a discount with free shipping for being a Virtual Fly Box member...did I forget artic fox tails & masks? Oh my!

Hello
I fought this for a long time because I have the Dyna King light that mounts
to my vise but I decided to finally cave in and buy a new spot light that
works on batteries. I wanted to get something to use in Somerset and I
don't like always having to work around extension cords and have so many
bulky things on my vise. I looked into a couple different models that work
off batteries and are small.
I ended up ordering the 12 LED model Byard sells at Lines end that Tony
Spezio's friend makes.

I LOVE THIS!!!! This thing is bright and small and portable!! I'm so glad
I finally bought one. I can keep this right in my tying bag and not have to
deal with extension cords and power strips. :) That alone made it worth
the purchase. It will be great for tying flies while camping also.
I don't usually pass this kind of message here but since Byard is selling
this product I wanted to share my thoughts!
Now I'm off to play with my new toy. (Clean thoughts Allan!)
Warm Regards,
Deb
