Hi Rodney,
I think the White Akroyd is a beauty of a fly. I dont think it would look great on a lure hook though whatever the size. Go with the salmon hook types rather than streamer or lure hooks. I use a hook called a Bartleet hook. I am going to use a 3/0 if I can find materials to match the hook. Like hackle and wing which is mallard bronze. Check the web for what these hooks look like and you will see they are totally different from the hooks you were going to use. As for the hook suggested in your book it would certainly make the fly you send special if they were tied on those hooks ! :-)
I believe a certain Linesend inc has them for sale if you look here:

Subject: [VFB] Hook size...

Hey all,
I'm going to ATTEMPT to tie up the "White Winged Akroyd" for the "Classic
Spey Fly Swap" and I was wondering if a Tiemco 7989 size #6 would be too
small, or should I go with a Tiemco 765TC #6 streamer hook??... The recipe in Bob Veverka's book "Spey Flies - How to Tie Them" was originated in 1878 by Mr. Charles Akroyd and included in George Kelson's 1895 book "The Salmon Fly"... It calls for a Size 2/0 blind-eye antique long Dee - Phillips... I
have no idea what-so-ever where I can find that hook, can someone help me
please??

Rodney...
