It might be different brands. Most of the plastic gold beads I was using were white in the center when they split in two.
All were from the same company because I was buying in bulk.

Thanks.. Never thought about the beads turning colors.. Maybe the ph of the
water could cause it to change.. Who know, cause I have broken some of these
and they are black (or whatever color) through and through... But I guess
they are dyed in some way too, cause they are probably made from at least
part recycled plastic...I'm also gonna go get some rit.. Chuck

No reason you can't use plastic beads. If you want a heavier fly just
add some lead wire. Some plastic beads will loose their color after r
they are wet. I had a batch that turned pink after the fly was used
several times.

I wondered about that too. All I have is gold, and plastic regular
craft beads in a variety of colors, including black.. I guess I could
use those craft beads, just have to debarb as they are not taper
drilled... Chuck

Not having any Crow, I am successfully using black wing feathers
from one of my genetic roosters. Has worked well for me since the
Sow bug last Spring. Also not having the black bead, I like Tony
have resorted to the Gold bead. Works for me.
