Murf: The kool aid dye don't wash out in water???? I would
think it rit dye would be "permanent" dye, and kool aid "food grade dye"
would be temporary???? Course, having five kids and three grand kids, My wife
and I have had to throw out a ton of "kool aid dyed" clothes over the
year...I have some Lemon Aid (Yellow), Boo Berry (Blue) and
Cherry(Red) Kool Aid. I'm gonna give it a
try.. Chuck

There you go. Oh, treat the feathers with Joy (other soaps not as
good), rinse well, use half 5% WHITE vinegar/half water roughly, dye in
hot water with kool aid is what I remember doing. This is the cheapest
way I know that gives good results for small batches. Some fading may
occur so test a few feathers first before dipping a whole pelt. Can be
used on hair but I used an ammonia/polmolive solution to de-grease some deer,
rinsed 3 times well and then went on with the vinegar/kool-aid. Vinegar
fixes the dye in some way just as you do with Easter eggs. Lots of
natural dyes available for free if you do some scouting or Indian
research. Deer brains is the best tanning product to get a soft
hair/hide product...Indian fanatic/scout leader/friend (Byard knows him and
has fished with him too) showed me that one and many more.

Feathers
Kool Aid (no sugar) is a cheap and effective dye. Forget
Rit. Black is a combo of all the basic colors, right?
