They need to be moving for the spider to take notice, so they are alive. I use to give her ten crickets at a time and then she will have some days of hunting. When I find a bait fisherman to throw in, there used be a competition between them, since he wants them too. It was fun to watch when I started doing it and we even invited the neighbours for some betting. But she doesn't take it very seriously nowadays. She has realized that it's a waste of energy... so now she just watches him doing the hard work with hunting them down and then she goes directly for him, getting all the crickets at the same time.
