I haven't changed, still tie the little guys, though next up for
tying after I finish Rick Z's swap flies involve 5/0, 8/0 and 10/0 hooks,
perfect for Green Drakes. I assume the "nice site" is Elmer Meiler's site
since I have small flies up on Hans' page. He's been doing some
reorganizing of the site, but it's great for warm water stuff.

Jerry,
Nice site. Like your flys. Didn't see any #28
Adams though? Have you changed?

You know me, Murf. I'm a green weenie man at heart. I doubt I
have an Adams in my boxes, except for the mandatory Size 20 OBA, parachute
of course. I really rather catches gills with poppers or sliders, but
if action slows I'll use a Delaware Flymph, Green Weenie or small Estaz bug
for trailer. I've got a new one to try next year called a Kehe, or
something like that. I also tie some small minnows, about an inch or
so long that work well as a trailer behind the popper.

Mr. Philly,
I must take issue with the Adams, winged. They certainly seem to
attract attention of the gills but possibly intimidate same. I
believe gills are opportunists for injured or otherwise defenseless
bugs. That said, an Adams which has been a bit chewed on or has a
wing pulled at an angle indicating injury seems to work for me... even if
only the topper to get attention. The real family expert is my
little Sarah when she was barely able to hold a fly rod. She knocked
em dead with #18 fl yellow inch worm patterns (aka green
weenie) suspended from a topper or just allowed a slow sink. I
have found Byard's Killer Kaddis W/a Kicker to be awesome on gills.
Keep em small and cut back on the sparkle a bit. Crippled emergers
do well too. They love hairwing flys that are a bit rough as
well.

Here's one tied out of Polar Fiber.
I also like small Crease flies, 1 to 2 inches long.
As far as the Adams goes, I've been tying for a few years, and was
never really good with wings. If they keep giving you trouble, tie
a Parachute Adams instead.

That's
true.. Older they get the smarter they get...Maybe they were hooked
a time or two when they were young, but got away, so they know what
a hook looks like. And like you say, the size that I call
"butterbeans" will eat anything, from tiny things and big things..
I've caught those tiny ones on huge bass lures before.. I wish that
was true with ME ,The getting smarter as I get older part..LOL
