Good old Welsh (?) fly, excellent for grayling here in the UK

I've seen it work w/short and long  shank hooks as well as

tied tandem.

When the fly is then called a Worm Fly I beleive. My book Robson Guide describes this fly thus:
"William B Currie in the Guinness Guide To Game Fishing states that "worming" is an old word for copulating and a Worm Fly is a representation of flies coupling on and in the water. It has been variously stated to suggest an alder larva, two beetles coming up for air, a caddis imitation and an early season lure.
With that specification it can be taken to be Gods gift to the desperate fisherman
not knowing what to fish next !! "

Hope that helps with the origins Garry !! LOL

The pattern for this is out of an older pattern book, I'll have to look it up when I get home.  It's one of my fishin' buddies go-to fly's.  I've taken trout and panfish on it while he's hooked some monster steelhead with the same pattern.  It is referred to an Engishe pattern for sure.  I'll look it up when I get home tonight.
