Subject: [VFB] Re: Fly fishing in France

Dear Jimmy,

All right.

But I have been furious to read on this forum things like : "going to
war
without french soldiers , is like going to deer Shooting without his
accordeon" from a great intellectual and humanist : Donald Rumsfeld.
Sorry, Lafayette was a courageous soldier, and he helped human beings to
get
freedom, somewhere...
The "Déclaration des droits de l'homme et du citoyen" has been written
in
France, and not at the ice age.
All this had to be said!

Now, about fly fishing!

There is a lot of rivers in France, and three major kinds of streams :

- Chalk streams in Normandy (typical) and more generally North-West of
the
country (big trouts)
- Granitic streams in Bretagne and center of the country (numerous
trouts)
- Mountain streams in Alpes Chain, and Pyrennees chain (small
trouts),and
pre-mountain streams in Jura and Vosges (wonderfull zebra trouts, and a
lot
of graylings there).

I live in Normandy :
Here are somme patterns that I like to use :
At the beginning of the season.

Dry : Tup's indispensable, Quill Gordon, hare's ear,
Wet : Pallaretta, Favorite de carrere, orange partidge, greenwell's
glory,
march brown

For Green Drake (on 8 to 12 hook) in may and june
Only big nymphs, no wet flies (sometimes bucktails and streamers as
imitations of larves (petite bête = Ephemera Danica bug) under the
surface
Submay, and grey andelle (or brown lèvrière) in the film.
Colonel Ogareff, and PANAMA for spinner.
Plumeau at night, getting the fish on noise
Rouloir as a spent.
For sedge: Only two patterns for me :
- 420(424) aimé Devaux, late (dead probably ~~ 1985), professionnal fly
tyer
in Champagnolles (Jura)

Summer : Nymph fishing : sawyer pheasant tail, skues nymphs (essentially
muskrat, small hackles in brown breast hungarian partridge).

Late summer and fall:
Only Dry : Pont-audemer - Président billiard (palmer) - tricolore de
bresson
(palmer)

What about the opportunities :
I think that there is a list of "guide de pêche", each one helps to fish
on
three or four rivers, and they are a lot of^people around the country.
Lakes, in france are not interesting for the flyfisherman, because they
are
fished by baits or spinning essentially for Pike, Perch, carp, and food
fish.

A good adress would be Conseil Supérieur de la Pêche, in Paris.
If you need, I can seek for this one precisely, and for some others

I can't help you more on the bank of the streamside because I am an
invalid,
and quite ill (liver transplantation ans coolon cut off), and it's not
easy
to undertake or promise to be ready as you come.
