Why don't you just wear a bear suit with pockets. That way you don't need to wear a vest or carry more explosives than a suicide bomber.

And, if that doesn't work, I carry a set of red emergency flares that shoot into the air to summon help and should be able to be spotted by passing aircraft. I expect that there is a host of other things that I have forgotten. Yes, the bear bells. I have three of them and attach them to my clothing to warn bears that I am coming. Otherwise, we have to walk through the bush, yelling "No Bears, No Bears" and one get a bit hoarse!
