I use a bag on my vise, and really like it (its not a "Garbag" whatever that is).  At first I bumped thread on it as I was wrapping, but I change the way I hold the bobbin and don't even think about it now.  It not only is a handy place to put scraps, but also a good source of material when I need an odd or end.... in contains a little bit of everything, and when I only need a little bit I can usually find it there.

Of course it doesn't do a thing for the mess on my desk.  I keep planning to tie several dozen of a particular fly then put those materials away when I start another... but it never works that way  Pretty soon i'll have materials from many tying sessions scattered everywhere.

My first trash collector was a plastic bag in an

I had heard about this so called 'garbag', that you
mount on your vise stem.
Supposed be so great: "The cleaner - The better...
The garbag - The best".
So finally I bought one and after a couple of hours
I discover that it
actually does make a difference. The mess is even
worse than it was
before!!! After a tying session it's still empty...
and not only that!!
Since it's wider than the pedestal base, the area
around it is reduced so
the scrap layer gets even thicker... and makes it
even harder to find your
tools under it.

Don't tell me it's another of your inventions,
DonO...
