Vagn,
If its the Orvis water then you
better practice your upstream fishing techniques. I have fished one ofthe Test
beats that was run by Orvis and its upstream dry fly and nymph fishing only. The
guy that was the bailiff is a real crusty old type that tutts a lot if you let
the fly drift downstream of where you are fishing. I believe its a no wading
stretch too. The flies that Ashley and Iain have suggested are fine. Small flies
worked better on the water when I fished it. Dont forget grayling patterns like
the Killer bug ( 12 to 16), Coves PTN 14 to 18, Grey Goose 14-18,
Klinhammers in the original colour and olive work well too. CDC emergers like
the "F" fly and some guy on this list has a fly called CDC and Elk I beleive
that works well too !!
Avon springs is a Stillwater with
decent size trout (rainbows) stocked and the river is next to the lakes. I
fished the river back in January for grayling and it was a bit canal like on the
top end. The Avon can be a bit low during september depending on rainfall and
whether the weed cutting has been done. It was quite low in January and very
very clear so take your time moving along the banks. It too is no
wading.
Hope this helps
