Got a call from a friend asking how Crooked Creek was fishing. I told him that it was fishing real good. He wanted to know if he made the 2 hour drive up here would I take him to the Creek. He got here after 1 PM and we headed to my doctor's place on the creek. We were in the creek by 2 PM. The wind was blowing a gale and the creek was high but wadeable and clear. (Nick)not like you saw it.I was fishing one of my bamboo rods. More on that later. On about the third cast I had a hit but no hookup Worked my way up to a chute with no action. I figured it would be one of those days. Well it was not. On one side of the chute there was a gravel bar. I got up on the bar and made a cast into the chute. Hook up. That is the way it went for almost an hour. I never moved from that spot. On the 7 th Smallmouth I broke 9" off the tip of my rod. The tip broke right at a snake guide. I found that the snake guide acted as a tip top and I was able to cast quite well with the rod as it was. I kept on fishing and caught five more Smallmouths. Then like a light switch, it quit. I got a few bumps but no takes. I fished that same spot for about another hour and changed flies, still no takes. Tried another chute, still no hits. My friend down stream from me was not doing much either. After about another hour with nothing doing, I saw David heading for the truck, he had a 2 hour trip after dropping me at my house. As I came by the first chute, I made my last cast and picked up another Smallie. All fish I caught today were Smallmouths in the 9 to 13" range. Landed 13 fish and Long line released quite a few more. What fly did I catch them on, well I am sure you all know. LOL Tony
