Subject: Fw: [VFB] Nighttime Fly Fishing

Quite a coincidence that you would post this topic.  Much earlier this morning,
approximately 1 AM, I landed my first TARPON of the season.  Not  a giant,
in the 30 lb range .  Actually a prime fly rod fish.  Caught him  on the downstream
swing on a Blanton's Whistler tied on a 2/0 jiggy hook.  11 wt rod. Right Angle
A/R reel.
He felt bigger  because I had to fight against the current.  It took only 10 minutes of
constant pressure to start the familiar right bicep, right lats ache  and cramping.
Poon was at the boat about 5 minutes later. .
(My hands were totally cramped.  Was not sure I would be able to hold the rod.
My partner had to physically pull my fingers apart. left hand clenched on the rod and my
right totally clenched as he and I were to grabbing  the leader to un hook the fish)

From now until November,  I will fish at night every chance I get.  Probably
3-4 times a month.  Snook and Tarpon will be the targets.
