OK, sowbug people: I recently accepted an invitation to be the faculty advisor
to an on-campus fly-fishing club. No big deal. Not as much interest as we
anticipated. One student, however, has been very energetic and helpful in this
whole activity. He e-mailed me last Thursday and invited me to go with him to
a tail-water to fish for some very big trout. This creek has no road, but has
a rail-road down it's entire length (12 miles). I went yesterday, and fished
sowbugs for the very first time. I caught four Browns, one was a fat
15-incher. Very proud of myself. I have long been the dry-fly purist, and
wouldn't take the time to try anything else. The other thing is that the
stream is apparently full of Crayfish. I had been deleting all the post about
crayfish patterns because I didn't even know where to fish them, and now I wish
that I had some. Please post your patterns one more time for a lazy VFB list
member. Thank you all for allowing me to ramble. By the way, I walked so far
yesterday that I walked my back-side clear off. Those of you who know me can
imagine my robust silhouette with no butt... !! Quite an image.
