Upon looking at the photos again, I think I have misunderstood the description of vertical & horizontal.

I took it to mean the position of the light source but it seems to refer to method of mounting on a vertical rod or horizontal rod. I assume that horizontal refers to the horizontal arm on the 12H  &  that the 12V (no picture) is similar to the 8V where there is a single vertical arm and the light is angled at approx 45 degrees.

I can’t see any advantage of a horizontal mount, in fact probably a disadvantage. What is your opinion?

Difference would be the mount. The 12H(orizontal) is mounted horizontally and the 12V(ertical) is mounted vertically (like the 8V, giving the light from a rear angle)...
