I think that, especially for dry fly fishing, it makes no difference whatever. If anything, I would suggest that a light-colored furl would be less visible, as a dark leader would stand out against a light sky more than a light one. That being said, I use white, gray, and green tying thread furled leaders, and have noticed no difference. Note that I DO make a difference in leader material depending on type of fishing. For dry fly fishing I use furled leaders made from tying thread (UNI 6/0), waxed with fly floatant. For nymph fishing I use furled leaders made from 12/00 mono (6X). And no, I do not switch leaders if I change from dry to nymph during the day. I usually use thread furls if I intend to/start out fishing dries, and only use a mono furl if the original plan is to fish nymphs.
