I tried nymphing with a furled leader rig this past
week on the White in Arkansas in several different
conditions. What helps is greasing the rig with Loon
Henry's Fork Sink-It and. I used up to 6 feet of
Flouro tippet. I was getting size 18 and 20 zebra
midges with tungsten beads to the bottom in 3 foot
deep riffles with no problem. In the big fast water
out of a boat we were using split shot so it didn't
make a big difference. I like the convenience of just
changing tippet to suit my situation. This was with a
7 foot furled. I also have a 5 foot that I can use.
