Jester, do you suggest to add a hook too? Or should a practice fly work
as well?

I use to add at least one fly

I'm adding only the tippet material.

This topic caught my attention. I am not usually one to go
against the old book. My question is with the furled leaders,, do you
only add tippet material? How are they for casting? Do they lay out a
piece of 4-5 foot of tippet? I may have to go for one myself to try
this out.

I've been using them for at least 5 years
or more. Swapped some tying materials with Jim Hatch on the old
Virtual Fly Shop Chat room. I don't make them but usually swap flies,
hooks or tying materials. Once I tried them I've never went back to
the standard leaders.
Most of the furled leaders are 5 to 7 feet
long. I usually start with 5 feet of tippet material. I use them for
trout and warm water fishing. Haven't gotten around to using them in
salt water.
All the ones I have are made from thread.
I wasn't that impressed by the mono ones I've tried.

Does
anyone use furled leaders?
Would
one have to increase the length of the tippet if using a furled leader??
