I should also mention:
Supazote ® is a closed cell cross-linked ethylene copolymer foam. Supazote is the softest foam, with approval for use in lifejackets and floatation devices.
Supazote can be found in white keychain floats, or the old style white squishy plastic lfe vests and belts.
This material is currently my favorite in flies where a high-floating, easily-worked foam is needed.
The material, unfortunately, is very hard to find!! Most keychain floats (a cheap, readily available source) are in colors, not white. (The color goes all the way through the material, and is not just on the surface... if you buy a blue keychain float, you get blue foam).
Stuff floats like -- well, a lifejacket.
Craft foam, like the Wally World stuff is my least favorite foam...floats like cast iron.
