Tony: How did you splice it in??? Could you splice a graphite rod somehow?? Or fiberglass it or do they make a special glue???? That's what I did too, I just turned it from an 8' rod to a 7' 6" rod LOL...and fished it till I got the new one..I still have the old one and thought about putting a new tip guide on it, and it would just be a little faster action rod right?? This year I have caught close to 60 Smallmouths up to
two pounds on my bamboo rod. One day when I was doing
real good, I broke the tip kind like you did. I was
landing a smallie . As I was pulling the line to
unhook the fish, I had the other end if the line hung
up on the reel. I snapped off the tip at a guide. That
was my 7 th smallmouth. I found I could still cast the
rod and kept on fishing. I caught six more smallies on
the broken tip. No big problem, I just made a new 9"
section and spliced it in. I have used the rod four
times since then. I also made a second tip section as
a backup.

ROFL... J/K.. I wish I could catch ANY species that
could break a rod... The
way I broke my last one is, I tried to pull the
floating line out through
the eyes, by just grabbing the tippet, and basically
bending the rod in a
180 degree angle trying to pull the flyline through
the eyes like that,
being lazy.. Luckily it was a $29.95 rod, but I
bought another JUST like it,
cause it is a South Bend Cahill White river and I
LOVE that rod.. it's slow
action 8 ft 5 wt, but I can now cast it 60 ft and
put the fly within a one
ft square....(with weight forward line of course)
with level line I couldn't
cast it 30 ft. and the reason i need to cast it
50-60 ft, is cause I fish in
my boat, along the bank, and the farther from the
bank that I'm casting
towards, the less I spook the fish...Chuck

Seriously, I went last week, when it was 106
degrees, the water was 91.4
degrees, and I thought I would not catch a think..
In just two hours I
caught 32 fish, and four of them were right at a
pound each..
