Glenn: Thanks.. Funny you should bring that up about a 100 watt vs a 60 watts that is just what I have now.. a "reading" light, that has all sorts of "adjustments" with levers and springs, and I did that just last night.. changed over from a 60 watt to a 100 watt bulb, and it was a lot better (or brighter anyway).I haven't tied under it yet, but it looks like it will be a lot better to use, but I did see what you mean about making things look bigger...I was wondering about the quartz, cause My wife says we'll have to order a bulb for that thing online, and a bulb (she says) is about 10 bucks, so I wanted to see if anybody was using a quartz before buying and ordering one...It burned out long before I started tying so I cannot remember what type light it put out.....Thanks again, Chuck   ----- Original Message ----- From: Glenn Overton To: vfb@troutnet.com Sent: Monday, September 11, 2006 9:27 PM Subject: Re: [VFB] Quartz Light for tying Hi Chuck, I know nothing about a quartz light. What I like to use is a regular desk lamp ,black in color,to reduce glare, with a 100 watt bulb. Using a regular house light bulbs ,it will be large enough to cover the back and front of the fly without leaving any shadows. A 100 watt bulb makes a fly look larger and you can see more details compared to using a 40 to 60 watt bulb.Changing the wattage around and you will see what I mean. When I buy a new lamp, usually under twenty dollars,  try to fine one with porcelain fittings as these can take more heat. It nice when you can turn all the lights off in the room and just use the desk lamp. You shouldn't have any other light shinning in your eyes while tying ,but if you need another light in the room,keep them behind you.
