Chuck, the anchor/roping starts at the rear bend
of the hook. Exact location is what you want the fly to be. A
caddis larva will have the start a little beyond the curve, so that the tail
bends just a little. A dry fly starts at the base of the tail
hackles.

the barb end??? or do you go either way depending on the fly you are
