Hello all-
I just found out today that a fellow coworker has picked up a fly-rod for the first time Tuesday and is 'hooked' after C&R-ing a gorgeous 17- inch rainbow trout on his first cast (now THAT is beginner's luck!). Here's the question for the group: He doesn't tie his own flies, and while I'm steering him that route, what do you suggest I tie up for him to use in the meantime, as a gift? As it is fall here in Pennsylvania, terrestrials are about all that is out (save a few late- hatching Little- BWO's / Slate Drakes at around size 18 or 20 and 'Ghostflies' = white mayflies around size 14 or 16).
So far, I have a half dozen of each of these tied for him:
Size 12 BH Prince Nymph
Size 14 Black Gnat dry, Coachman- Brown EHC, and Foam Black Beetles
Size 16 BHGRHE (hare's ear), PTN, Isonychia Swimmers, and Lt Cahill Thorax (Dry)
Size 18 BWO, Black Ant, and Claret/ Cinnamon Ant
and Size 20 Brown-n-Olive Al's Rats (midge pupa pattern)
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance and Tight Lines,
Pete
