Actually, early this Summer I was riding with another feller as we
idled around a lake from one cove to the next. He was watching his
Sonar and said, "I see fish, but I can't tell where they are."
A few seconds later, my fly rod jumped. I had accidently dragged my
streamer (okay, okay - a heavily weighted Clouser Minnow in "Electric
Chicken" colors) in the water and it had pulled out a bunch of line.
I grabbed the rod to get the fly back in and WHOOPS! FISH ON!!
it was a white bass. I had found a school of white bass by.....okay,
I was accidently trolling, even if I hadn't intended to. We started
casting into the school and each of us caught about 1/2 dozen feisty
16 inchers before the school moved on.
So we intentionally started trolling our streamers and found the
school (or another) about 200 yards away. Each of us caught another
1/2 dozen or so before this school moved on.
So yes, trolling streamers is very effective in Indiana. And yes, I
will be doing it again.
