OK, now this is interesting.
Since what started this thread was the fact that I posted about our
state F&G making a mandatory C&R of all fish caught in Brantley lake due to
high levels of DDT found in them. I was rightfully questioned by Jimmy D as
to if I was sure it was DDT. I called the G&F and verified that it was.
Now it gets interesting, the more I sat here and thought about it, the
more questions I had concerning my local fishery. The biggest question was
this, how did this effect the fishing upstream on the Pecos river, and
downstream on the river as well as Lake Avalon, Carlsbad Municipal Lake,
Battan Lake and the rest of the river system. Note, from the entrance of
the Pecos river into Brantley Lake, to where the river flows out of Battan
Lake is less than 20 miles.
Well, another call to the G&F, Now I'm more confused than ever. The
Mandatory C&R "Only" applies to Brantley Lake. Fish taken just below the
dam, all the way to the Texas boarder are not part of the Mandatory C&R.
And G&F could not give me a reason why?
So, now being more confused, mainly because I know nothing about DDT, I
had to look for some answers. What I found surprised me, and added to the
confusion. I have posted several links below that give a different story as
to the DDT question.
But, in doing so, I need an answer as to why only Brantley Lake, and
nothing else??? I think the search for an answer has just begun. I have to
find out what is going on with my closest fishing lake.
