Chuck,
For the balsa bodies I actually punch cylinders
along the grain with sharpened brass tubing. I then split the cylinders
in half using my pocket knife. I use a needle file to file a shallow
notch for the hook shank to fit into I then epoxy the balsa pices
together around the hook shank using 5 minute epoxy. To shape the balsa
I then use wood files and emery boards. (Before I split the cylinders I
put a cup in the face using a Dremel).

no trout to speak of here in Bama either..AWESOME flies man, just AWESOME..
On the balsa wood bodies, do you cut a slit in the wood, slip it on the
hook, then super glue the slit closed??? Also, I had forgotten about catalpa
worms...We have a LOT of those here and when I was a bait chunking
kid, with live catalpa worms, I caught bluegills, shell crackers, war
mouths, Green sunfish, pumpkinseeds, all manner of brim, along with crappie,
bass (both large and small mouthed" and even some channel catfish with
those, so I must try that pattern.. Chuck

[VFB] Scud webpage
I've created a webpage for Jimi's scud that he's been
working on. The webpage is at http://chemprof.tripod.com/scud.htm
. I put his fly, complete with recipe under the bass & panfish
section of my website (there are no freshwater trout in Louisiana, and the
website is titled "Fishing in Southwest Louisiana."). You should be
able to navigate to the scud page easily from the main page in my sig
below as well. The scud is also announced as the newest fly in the
links to the Bass & Panfish section on the main page.
Jimi
wants some critique of his pattern. Personally I think it will be
quite effective on panfish here in southwest Louisiana.
