Well, Monday I took the plunge. I have been fishing Furled Leaders now for almost 5 years. Monday I got out my plans for the jig and built it. Between yesterday and today I have made 12, ranging from white to black to tan. All turned out perfectly and I am in the process of changing all of our reels to them. Will have some in reserve, but also plan on making some more in different colors. I find it fun and constructive to do so. I may wind up being over populated with them soon, but figure I can always trade some off or enlighten others to the joy of using them. I have focused on 10' ones right now, but have made the jig to be able to do 8' and 12' as well.
The front hit here right at 4:45 this afternoon in SE NM. Temps went from 71º to 37º in 1 hour and 20 minutes. Wind out of the north sustained at 30 MPH with gusts over 50. It is colder than a well diggers hinny right now, and promises to be colder in the early AM. I hope and pray I got all my plumbing well enough to survive this. So, tomorrow I plan on huddling next to the tying bench working on flies and watching the weather out the window. Still need to get some form of heat in the family, tying room, but think I can swipe a space heater to put near my feet for the time being. Have to head to ABQ Sunday morning for an early AM Monday Allergy test, (great joy, the itch you cant scratch). I plan to check out some "Secret" trout water my Fisheries Biologist friend for the NMG&F told me about on the way up. Supposed to have some browns and rainbows up to 22" and no one fishes it, because they don't know it is there. If it looks good and the prospects are nice, will have to give it a shot and then see if Rodney can come down and fish it with me. May not be San Juan size fish, but it could be our "Secret part of the state. Much like "Indian Big Springs" is for the family an myself for green sunfish and bass. Time will tell. Have a good one and tight lines and fine flies. Jimi
