Don Ortez of Wyoming. Don showed me his Bait's Motel collection of mice
which was really humourous. Don makes mice and has these really funny
different mice he makes. Some are very clever. He is a crazy fly tyer and
spends hours making really clever flies like a flexo tubing sail fish and
also a giant muddler minnow scuplture tied on like a 30/0 shark hook using
12" turkey quills.

See what I mean Chuck. be careful!

Subject: [VFB] Preserving some Turkey wings

Folks: I know we just talked about tanning and preserving hides, but today I
came upon a HUGE roadkilled wild turkey.. I skidded on the brakes, turned
around and picked him up..His body, head and tail were pretty messed up, but
his wings were in almost perfect shape (and he has some feathers that are
over a foot long and over 2 inches across. Huge feathers..Anyway, what I did
(for now, till I can get some advise) is cut the wings loose from the body
at the shoulders, put the meaty end in a gallon zip lock, bought three boxes
of tablesalt and poured it in the bag, filling it past where any raw meat
was sticking out.. What should I do now??? I thought about just clipping the
big wing feathers off, but there is a whole patch of small (hen like)
feathers on each wing too..Thanks, Chuck
