Had to share my brother's response with everyone....he's a worm-dunker, and
proud of the fact that he took more on the river that day with his jig than
I did with my flies. He's also working on his PhD in Philosophy....

Point well taken - you have to appeal to the whole "philosophy of results"
huh? Well, I just imagine the art of fishing began with such a philosophy -
you have to fish in order to eat. Somewhere along the line with the
industrial revolution and mass commercialization of society, such activities
became unnecessary and therefore, you could for the first time move from a
philosophy of results. So yes, mine might be a philosophy of results, but
yours is a philosophy that can only exist while piggy backing on the mound
of capitalism. Taken in that light, I'm not sure yours is of any more value
than mine.

"But ah, to fish with a worm, and then not catch your fish! To fail with a
fly is no disgrace, your art may have been impeccable, your patience
faultless to the end, but the philosophy of worm-fishing is that of results,
of having something tangible in your basket when the day's work is done."

Bliss Perry - Fishing with a Worm [1904]
