Jimmy: Only thing I might add is that if more ppl would join in, it wouldn't be
the same ppl posting so much (I'm as guilty as anybody here), and we'd all
learn so much more from more ppl's ideas...And one can learn from a newbie as
good as they can a veteran at times..I know there are lurkers on ALL list and
that is fine, but if there is anybody out there afraid that they might ask a
"dumb question".. Have no fear as i have already asked ALL the "dumb questions"

  Subject: [VFB] VFB Moderator

  Hi Gang,

Due to time constraints and other projects, Byard has not had available the
extra time needed to monitor the list lately and has asked that I keep an eye
on things for him. Because of my appreciation for Byard and what he means to
our list, I readily accepted. So, until further notice, I will serve as VFB
Moderator. You needn't think of me as the List Enforcer, but I will step in,
(off list so as not to embarass anyone), if I think someone is taking
advantage of the list, discussing things that are way off topic,
innapropriate, or beating a dead horse, so to speak.

One thing I've noticed recently is the continuous back and forth postings,
by a few of the list members, of things that could have been better handled
OFF LIST or by going to the VFB Chat Room. That's why Byard set it up to begin
with. Same way with the Jokes that almost got out of hand on the list until I
offered to do the Joke for the Day, which I have done for nearly 5 years now.
Since then, very few jokes appear on the VFB and they're most always fishing
related. At last count some 55 of you still receive and enjoy the JFTD and it
prevents further list clutter.

To be frank, it's a little aggravating to check my email and have to delete
a slew of VFB emails, all from the same group of people, going back and forth,
and back and forth. If you have something important to say, by all means -
say it. If you can help someone with a problem pertaining to fly fishing /
tying, please do so. If you have a fly fishing / tying tip to pass along, do
it. And if you need help, ask for it. Just putting in your "2 cents worth or
atta boy" when several have already done it or responding to every vfb post is
a waste of bandwidth and triggers the delete key. Wishing each other happy
birthday, congrats on wedding anniversaries, birth of a child, grandchild, or
prayers for loved ones is an integral part of our list, so please don't stop
them. This thing we call the VFB is FAMILY and as such, we take care of each
other. More than once, caring VFB'ers have been the source of much support,
comfort and prayers during difficult times for many of us. I know it
certainly was for Jody when she was battling breast cancer.

Byard has said all this before, but with me taking on the task of List
Moderator, I felt certain items needed to be revisited. Now, if I've offended
anyone, I'm truly sorry. That was not my purpose. I only want one thing for
the VFB and that's for all of us to feel "at home" and for this to be the best
fly fishing email list on the internet. I sincerely hope nobody gets their
feelings hurt and quits the list. Also, if you have comments about anything
above, please contact me OFF LIST.

  Best Regards,
  JIMMY D
