Thanks to everybody for the leader tips... I think I'll probably end up using the furled leaders (which I LOVE), just that like I said, my wife and kids had trouble at times with tangles..Lefty also brought up what I thought was a good tip though for bass fishing in heavy cover like grass , lily pads, weeds, etc (which is where the big bass hide to eat), and that is to use a heavy level leader, say 20 pound test, so that you can get your fly back out of the weeds without losing it.. He says to use this method when using bass popping bugs as the noise attracts the bass' attention anyway.. i realize it would not cast as far or land as soft, but where I fish that (the weeds and grass) IS where the "big uns" hide..Also, good tip about buying new leaders and/or tippet material.. Wally World may be cheaper, but they do not date them or anything like that, and they do sit under all those fluorescent lights, being deteriorated by the UV rays... Thanks again to everybody, Chuck

If the leader is bad you can count on nothing but bad results. I usually buy a tapered leader and build the last few feet myself. As the leader (tippet plus) is worn or clipped, I can just add a bit. The alternative is to use the furled leaders. Mike On 1/4/07, Chuck Alexander <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: Daphne: Thanks. do you use a surgeons knot for these??? Reason i ask is because I had a tapered leader I found last night that had only about 3 ft left on it, and that section was probably 20 pound test.. I tried to tie a 10# to it, to which I was gonna tie a 6# then a 4# tippet.. But the 20# was soo stiff, the knot just came lose.. I spit on it, I tried it dry, everything I knew to do, and it still came loose..
