Yes and no (don’t you love those definitive answers?☺). 

If you’re talking about the 100’s of “standard” patterns that most people tie, 
the answer is yes – they were all originally working flies. Any of them will 
catch a salmon today and many are in fact still used. It just depends on what 
purpose the fly is tied - display or fishing. Most people don't usually use the 
fancy feather patterns though as hairwings have now pretty much come to 
dominate that market.

However, many Atlantic Salmon tiers also tie unique, original designs just for 
display and these are obviously not meant to ever get wet or catch a fish.
