When I saw the pattern myself, they were using the tan/brown version of that -- cushion foam. I had black/grey from computer hard drives that we had bought at work, so I used it. I like the foam b/c it's softer and wraps around nicely.

As you can see, the foam splits the marabou tail forming the marabou
claws (you can trim these back as you like) and the foam is then made
into the back of the crayfish.

If anyone has any other questions, let me know. I'm still trying to
find where on the net that I found the pattern myself.
