Mark,

I'm afraid we're not going to make Sowbug for the 2nd year in a row. I've
got to present a talk at a scientific meeting that Friday...thought about
making a run up to Mtn. Home after the meeting, but remembered I'm not 18
anymore....hopefully next year the dates won't coincide (or I won't have
anything to talk about...). I've been heavily involved in the new Gulf
Coast Council of the FFF (currently a subcoucil of Southern). Our first
newsletter is now out at

Exactly right on Mark, .....how you been btw? Good i hope and hi to the
wife. Hope to see you guys again in March in Mt. Home. WE prolly gotta a
lotta "in-common" stuff to talk about in terms of.....i hate to even speak
the damn word, flood(s).....i heard Katrina hit you pretty hard? Man, you
guys would not believe what some of the fly plates at the annual East Idho
Fly Tying/Fly Fishing Expo in Idaho Falls, go for each year. We're talkin'
2/3K or more.....up to and above 5K depending on how many flies are in the
plate, and who tyed them, etc. It's a beautiful thing to see when guys get
in these bidding wars for them, lmao. I've been in some of them and it gets
intense. Then at the end of "an "item"", lol.......the whole place errupts
in applause for the contribution.........it's a GAS! I once got a Butcher
and a Baker, two very old famous Atlantic Salmon patterns on one hook in a
single frame, and a Butcher on one hook in a frame, and a Baker on one hook
in a frame. That's four flies in three frames......for $800. I had the
single Butcher and the single Baker sold later that same night in the hotel
bar (where everyone hangs til who knows when...........) to Andy Puyans
(legend of the Henry's Fork) for $500. Andy was very happy to get them for
$250 each, (which is a steal) and i was MORE than happy to have them both on
one hook in a single frame for $300. We bouff got incredable deals, simply
because i knew i could off those two singles, and i also knew that that,
would be the only way i could justify doin' the deal in the first place to
my wife, lmao. Eight bills for four flies is actually a good deal
itself.......being what they are, tyed by who tyed them. But she's easier to
sell for three, than eight, lmao. And i certanly didn't need the flies
duplicated. mark.....

I was just going through some tying desk drawers and found my Flies from
the 2 Nixon swaps and realized that I need to put together shadowboxes for
them like I did for the Mega-mayfly swap I hosted.

Chuck,

Prices of such flies are determined entirely by demand. Doesn't mean the
dollar values mean much to me. I've got a few flies tied by Tony (mainly
from Tom Nixon fly swaps plus a froggie) none of the will see the water
(none of the Nixon swap flies have either. I also have a ,56%er tied by
Tom Nixon, and with Tom gone you can bet that one won't either. A couple
years ago a shadow box of Tom's flies constructed by another very good fly
tier (who died about 6 months after Tom) was auctioned off at a dinner for
the Baton Rouge conclave...fetched something like $750-800.

Tom's fly and all three editions of his book are staying in my collection
while I'm alive...after that who knows what they'll be worth then? By the
way, I have no plans of departing soon...

left to get better and better ROFL... Chuck

Seriously, your letter here did get me to thinking.. Outside of
sentimental value, say somebody had one of Dave Whitlock's first deer hair
flies, not knowing he'd have the fame in that area that he does today, what
would a fly like that be worth???

Picked up my flies today. Nice job everyone on peppers. They'll all see
water except Tony's that will join the size 20 Froggie he gave me many moons
ago in the swap flies I don't fish box.
Nice job with the swap, Chris.
