Thanks to everybody for the response...After reading what Jimmy said about big
bass wanting big flies, then Ken talking about the big gill on the 1/0, and
after reading the Alabama wildlife page the other night... I think that I may
be able to combo these...I know what Jimmy is saying is true, as my son in law
fishes for big bass (and catches them too) and he uses HUGE spinner baits... I
think a bass may be like a snake, in that they will try and sometimes do, eat
things near about as big as they are.. Maybe they think that since they don't
when their next meal may come, they need to stock up when they can, and that it
takes as much energy to chase one #12 minnow (which they'd have to eat dozen of
to get their belly full, and instead go for the one big "happy meal" in the
huge shiners, shad etc... But, that brings up the HUGE Bama bluegills...
Alabama is one of only about 3 states to have 4# plus Bluegills on record, and
they did have the world record (not sure if it has been broken) of 4 pounds 12
ounces, caught in 1950.. Well, If you caught a four pound bluegill, In my
opinion, it would feel like an eight pound bass, as it (because of the body
shape) would be like trying to haul a hubcab through the water... So, I too,
and tired of catching the small bluegills... So, these flies in the #6-1/0
range might get me some, say, a 4-5 pound bass, but also get some of the
"hubcap" bluegills, instead of most of them being hand sized or smaller...I
won't catch as many fish, but I should catch bigger fish... May not be a trophy
bass, but if I'm still gonna be using my 5/6wt rod, I may not want a 10 pounder
LOL... Cause it would break my rod, I'd lose the fish, and cry all the way home
LOL.. Thanks again, Chuck
