Larry if the walnut you have is that old it is very likely to be slow growth
walnut. See, the difference in that as oppossed to todays woods are that the
tree's have not been genetically altered to grow faster with less growth
rings and looser grain. The wood you have is a treasure trove of most likely
old
growth tight ringed wood. This wood can be great for turning, and
woodworking in general. You may need to surface plane and joint the edges if
you are
looking to make wider boards. have fun with the stuff.
