To Nick and Iain:
When describing a reel as left hand wind (LHW) or right hand wind (RHW) we are talking about which side the handle is on when mounted on the rod and the direction of winding the line in or out. This is not to be confused with casting with the right arm and transferring the rod to the left hand while winding with the right hand (RHW) or casting with the right arm and continuing to hold the rod in the right hand while winding in with the left hand (LHW) thus obviating the need to transfer the rod to the other hand. In my early days (a long time ago in the 1950's) I could never understand why spinning reels, aka fixed spool reels (i.e. Mitchell 300, Omnia le Super, Intrepid deluxe etc) were almost always left hand wind however when I eventually obtained one, I became used to it, especially as one did not have to transfer the rod to the other hand to reel in. Why then are the majority of today's baitcast reels RHW? Sure you can get left hand versions but they are not offered in as many models as RHW models. I think this is an oxymoron! Ever since the 1950's I have steadfastly sought LHW capable reels. Now does anyone have a 31/8 LHW Hardy perfect for sale? Neville (Nev) Gosling Greater Vancouver BC, Canada
