Chuck, here's how I do it. I hope that this makes sense. I take a small feather
(hen, quail, pheasant body, whatever I have) and cut a "V" into the top by
snipping the stem part of the way down. I then set the "v" on top of the hook,
put a couple of loose wraps around it, adjust it for length and tie it in. trim
the rest and you're done. it's way easier than dealing with all of those fibers
plus you know that you have an even amount on each side. If this doesn't make
complete sense, let me know which part and I can elaborate. -Jeff

Subject: [VFB] Tying in beards

Can anybody tell me the "secret" of tying in beards
on small, down eye nymph hooks?? Say, a size 12 and smaller hook. An easy
way to do it???.. if there is an easy way??? Thanks,
Chuck
