Got a call from Dean yesterday afternoon about hitting
Crooked Creek. We had a cold front go through Saturday
evening with a bad thunder storm, this will generally
put the bass down. We got to the creek about 2 pm. I
hooked up with a Smallmouth on the forth cast. Worked
a good stretch of creek without a hit. I finally got
up into a riffle and hooked up with four more
Smallmouths. I had to work for them. Dean headed up to
the Carp hole, he had planned to fish for Carp. This
is where Mike got the big Carp on Friday. I worked my
way up the creek to where Dean was, hooking up with
two more Smallies in the way.
Chatted with Dean a while, seems that the Carp would
follow his fly but not take it. He would have several
Carp follow only to turn away. Worked up to the next
riffle and started to catch some hand size Bluegills.
Dean finally gave up on the Carp and switched over to
smaller flies and started fishing for Smallies and
gills. On the way back down I hooked a Rock bass , it
had a large Crawfish in it's gullet, this is not the
first time I have seen this. Working back down the
Creek caught some more Gills and another two
Smallmouths. As it got later in the afternoon, the
fish got more active, We were catching Gills now quite
frequently.I also hooked up with a large Goggleye
Bass, this was my last fish for the day. It finally
was time to head home. I ended up with 10
Smallmouths, one Rock Bass a Goggleye Bass and 25
Gills, a total of 37.
It was a good afternoon. Guess what fly I used, all
were caught on the Chili Pepper.
