I had the pleasure of fishing with Terry and Lefty
Wilson yesterday evening on Crooked Creek. Roxanne was
to come down with them but last minuet things came up
and she had to pass on it. She was so close to coming
that her waders and fishing bag were still in the SUV.
Lefty had me make him a bamboo rod, he and Terry came
down to pick it up and fish the creek. The temps were
in the high 90's so we did not go till about 6 pm
hoping it would cool off some. I wanted to try an
experimental bamboo rod I had just finished. It is a
Quad that has been twisted. I also wanted to try the
hybrid fly I am tying for the Chili Pepper Swap 2, it
is Half WRD and Half Chili Pepper. The fly and the rod
worked real well.
I caught about a dozen nice Gills on the fly and rod,
needless to say I was pleased.
In spite of the water being real low and warm as bath
water, Lefty did about 20 fish both Gills and Goggle
eye, Terry also fished Bamboo he caught around a dozen
Gills. Terry did well on a sz 14 Chili Pepper. Lefty
used the Pepper then switched over to a dry fly to try
the rod with a small dry.
This morning I had an appointment and did not go with
them, they came over to the house about noon, said it
was too hot to be out there. We visited told lies and
tied a few flies before they left to head back home
about 5 PM.
Lefty did catch his Smallmouths this morning
This is the first time I have been on the water since
May.It was good to get out. Terry, Roxanne and Lefty
will be back for the Conclave in October and the
Sowbug in March. We plan on hitting the Creek again in
October when it is cooler.
Terry and Roxanne have a new book out on Smallmouth
fishing. Lefty did the art work for the book.
