Jimmy, thanks,
This was a flybox where I use regulary flies from. Others didn't fail.
The fly which failed, was a 'Irresistible' dry, with a spun dear hear body, Maybe these types of fly are more difficult to dry....

Rene, I never dry my flies. And, I've never had a rusty hook except the time, my fly box got dunked in the water. Even then, by shaking the excess water out of the fly box and sitting it in the sun to dry completely, I only had a couple flies that got rust on the hook I think you got a bad hook or had a lot of moisture in your fly box and failed to dry it out.

Gang,
How do you dry (not dye <G>) your flies?
I was out fishing today at the Ahr (Very neat, fine water, pleasant scenery and excellent wine <G>, you see the picture ??).. Aehm that was not the topic. I tried to ty on a fly and the hook broke into 2 parts. I'm sure this fly is 3 to 5 years old, and a couple of years ago I caught a trout with it. I usually wash my flies after return, and let them sit on a cloth for 1 to 3 days, than they return into the box. My impression is, that this fly (hook) broke because of rust.

How do you avoid this, or was it simply a bad hook?
I'm talking about freshwater.

Don't worry about this mishap, I had some more flies with me and caught my share of fish. Most of them on a hopper and my parachute beetle.
