In spite of a strange weather pattern that has dumped cold, wet weather on Utah every weekend for the past five weeks, I have managed to get out three times for some great fall stillwater fishing. Strawberry Reservoir is our local "big fish" lake, and in two trips I was able to catch enough Cutthroat trout in the 18 to 22 inch range to keep me happy. We also have a local reservoir, Lost Creek, only 45 minutes away from my house, that is known as a "put and take" fishery but has developed a little known population of large Bonneville Cutthroat trout which are feeding on a blooming Chub population. (Bonneville Cutthroat trout co-evolved with the Rocky Mountain Chub, and aggressively feed on them in the shallows, especially in the fall). While the Power bait fishermen are targeting the few remaining planted rainbow trout, my fishing buddy and I were out in the shallows hauling in 18 to 22 inch Cutthroat in 9 feet of water.

I have been updating my fishing pictures on my Webshots account, and have recently organized the fishing pictures into two new albums, one exclusively pictures of fish, the others pictures of the water where the fish live. If you use Webshots as your screen saver you can download them for free. (You should also be able to copy any picture displayed by right clicking on it. Make sure you are in full size view if you want it at its highest resolution.)

Here is the link to a surprisingly nice, fat, cutthroat caught in the shallows at Lost Creek reservoir last week.
