My first thought is are you looking at the fly in or out of the water?
I have the same effect with mine out of the water but in the water the
fly seems different.
On some of my soft hackles I out a small ball of fur behind the hackle
so they don't go so near the body but stick out a bit more of an angle.

I will bring up the first question in a while.
When I tie soft hackles and fish them the hackle always ends up
plastered against the body of the fly.
What am I doing wrong (only on the tying)?
How do I cure this?
I read that the hackle waves around inthe watyer. Not on mine.
