Sort of like a goose biot, only from the other side of the stem of the feather... Dunno exactly what feather is implicated -- I'm assuming a tail feather here, which should be rather symmetrical, so it actually should not matter which side of the stem you take the herl from.

More accurately, it is the barb from a suitable goose feather...
