I am sure you know, but others may not....Robert Travers is the pen name of John Voelker. He has to be my favorite, with Paul Quinett as a close second.

I just finished re-reading "Fishless Days and Angling Nights, by Al Miller, AKA Sparse Grey Hackle, Crown Publishing co., 1971 This book is a gathering of Spars's fishing stories, some true, some embellished, but still one of the most enjoyable fishing books I've ever read. I highly recommend anything written by Sparse. This also got me to thinking about my alltime favorite outdoor writers. So, I decided to list my top ten. This will be hard to do, but here goes! Those of you who know me, know that I'm a collector. I collect classic babmoo fly rods, classic golf clubs and fly fishing books, some classic, some not, some instructional, but all entertaining. At last count I have 231 of thesse books. My rankings are below with my top entertaining fishing writer being Sparse Grey Hackle. Flick, Schullery and Schwiebert are my three favorite instructional fishing writers. They tied for tenth place. WHO ARE YOUR FAVORITES ? Alfred Miller, AKA Sparse Grey Hackle Ray Bergman Roderick Haig-Brown Robert Traver John Voelker Frank Woolner Patrick McManus Ed Zern John Gierach Art Flick Paul Schullery Ernest Schwiebert Have A Great Day! JIMMY D P.S. Sparse Grey Hackle looks enough like DonO to be his twin. Put a white mustache and Presto - Don Ordes! Anyway, I'm sure that DonO knew Sparse. After all DonO knows most everything. Just ask him. ;-) **************** ><((((((((º> ************** JIMMY D.
