I tried the setting for the mixer but it didn't seem to work for me. It suddenly dawned on me that I hadn't rebooted since I'd been trying to get stereo mode to work. Once I rebooted, xawtv came up in stereo mode. My hypothesis is that since xawtv originally came up in mono mode it placed the card into a mono mode that it couldn't change out of for some reason.
