A little update on this issue.  xawtv -hwscan now yields multiple 
devices whereas, previous version of xwatv only saw one.  When I specify 
'-c /dev/video0' I get the image I expect.

My Radeon VE card has a s-video input and hwscan lists:

port 55-55                              [ -xvport 55 ]
     type : Xvideo, video overlay
     type : Xvideo, image scaler
     name : ATI Radeon Video Adapter

This might be fun.

I didn't have to buy my radio from a specific company to listen
to FM, why doesn't that apply to the Internet (anymore...)?
