No, thats something different.  The OP wants to record from /dev/dsp3
and playback to /dev/dsp just to hear sound while watching TV (see the
sox line at the bottom of the original mail).  xawtv doesn't copy
audio data from one device to another.  The -C switch only has some
effect if you are going to record some movie ...
