Good thoughtful post, which made me think about how we use TVs at the
moment. I don't know about other countries and TV systems, but pretty
much all recent TVs that I've seen have actually come with an
alternate channel for information attached to the video feed. It might
be relatively simple text-only "teletext", it might be more like
"BBCi" or the detailled program guides that come with digital TV.
A lot of people habitually flip back and forth between video and text
screens, or use a built-in overlay function to see both at once.
However you look at it, there is a real possibility for (for example)
a kind of FireAnt-like experience where the video and the accompanying
text/photo/whatever are transmitted and displayed together.
I find it easy to imagine a kind of vlog-box that reads RSS+enc and
converts it to video+teletext or video+digital-markup. Then a viewer
is free to use their usual, familiar, TV UI, be it both on show at
once, or just a mode button for "show notes".
Anyone know of anything such as this is in the pipeline?
